Use of Dithizone for the Spectrophotometric and Thermal-Lens Determination of Metals in the Flow

Abstract

The conditions for spectrophotometric determination of a set of metals using dithizone under batch conditions at the level of n ´ 10–7 mol/L were found; to decrease the blank signal, an auxiliary oxidant (molecular iodine oxidizing unreacted dithizone) is used. To expand the circle of determined metals, a system of reagents of dithizone and zinc EDTA chelate is proposed. Based on these conditions, a variant of flow spectrophotometric determination of transition metals with dithizone is developed. A possibility of thermal-lens determination of the studied metals is shown; the limits of detection are n ´ 10–9 mol/L.
