FTIR spectroscopy of chondroitine sulfate-water system

Abstract

Differential IR spectra of water were measured in thin films of Chondroitine sulfate and collagen. After a relative quantity of tightly bound water in samples was calculated. Percentage of bond water molecules is higher in biopolymer films than in bulk water. It is probably due to formation of "water bridges" which stabilize the polymer structure.
