The Investigation of Phenomenological Model for Kinetics of Bacterial Adsorption to Low Energy Surfaces

Abstract

The proposed early mathematical model of kinetics of bacterial adsorption on polymeric materials with different levels of hydrophobicity was investigated. The calibration procedure and the algorithm of calculation were described for simulations by the model. The model was used to describe experimental data of adsorption of Escherichia coli (strain 055) and Listeria Monocytogenes on various polymeric surfaces. Theoretical prognosis of the results of experiments based on the model showed that the accuracy of prognosis tended to decrease with decreasing value of polymer contact angle.
