Analytical estimations of parameters of monoatomic gas free jet expanding into vacuum

Abstract

The Boltzmann equation for spherical free jet expansions of monoatomic gases atoms of which interact with the Lennard—Jones potential was solved by the method of moments using the ellipsoidal distribution function. The method of matching of asymptotic expansions was applied for an analysis of the moment equations system. Composite expansions allowing sufficiently exact estimations of jet parameters over the entire flow field were constructed. In the case of an argon jet, the comparison with the experimental data was carried out.
