Magnetostimulated acceleration of the radical donor-acceptor copolymerization

Abstract

It was established that the radical donor-acceptor copolymerization of maleic anhydride with vinyl 2,2,4-trimethylheptanoate, vinyl acetate and styrene is accelerated under a magnetic field. Molecular weights of the copolymers produced are higher than those of the copolymers obtained without a magnetic field. These magnetic effects depend on the both the induction and the pulsatile component amplitude of the magnetic field. They are explained on the basis of the Hall's scheme for the radical pair formation at the interaction of the electronoacceptor monomer with electronodonor one. It is suggested that the radical pairs take part in both the initiation and the propagation reactions of the copolymerization discussed, and that the spin polarization at the pulsatile field increases their contribution in these reactions too.
