Micellar initiators of free radicals formation

Abstract

The influence of surfactant type, peroxide and reaction media on the velocity of radicals formation initiation in mixed micellar system “surfactant-peroxide” was studied. It was found that cationic surfactants as distinct from anionic or non-ionic surfactants catalyze radical decomposition of peroxides. In organic media the catalytic action of cationic surfactants is greater than in aqueous solutions. Catalytic activity of surfactant depends significantly on the counter-ion. Cetyltrimethylammonium chloride has shown the greatest catalytic activity.
