Interference of elements at extraction by macrocyclic extractants

Abstract

Extraction of cations of some alkali and alkali-earth metals as well as Pb(II), Rh (III) and Pd (II) by crown-, thiocrown- and azacrown ethers from picric and nitric acid solutions was studied. At extraction of metal cations by macrocyclic extractants in polar solvents, an interference of these cations on the extraction of each other is observed. Reasons of this phenomenon were disclosed, and the mechanism of extraction supression of microcomponent by macrocomponent was assumed. It is shown for the first time that during simultaneous extraction of Am(III) and Eu(III) by calixarenes their co-extraction takes place. The latter results in a good extraction of Am(III) from nitric acid solutions. We made a hypothesis on the formation of mixed nitrate complex of americium and europium that is effectively extracted by calixarenes in the organic.
