Determination of alendronate and inorganic anions by capillary electrophoresis

Abstract

The method of the simultaneous and selective determination of alendronate, chloride, phosphite, phosphate and methylsulfonate was developed. These ions are the major contaminators in the synthetic alendronic acid. Therefore, it is important to control the amounts of these impurities because alendronic acid is a component of different pills and drugs. The method proposed in this paper allows the separation of all ions for 4 minutes. It is possible to determine low concentrations of ions at high concentrations of other listed ions due to excellent performance of the separation (200 – 500 thousands of theoretical plates). Limits of the detection are 0.4 – 2.3 ppm. The method was successfully used for the analysis of regenerated methanesulfonic acid.
