Different types of phase separation in the polycomplex gels based on lightly cross-linked polyanion and poly(propylene imine) dendrimer

Abstract

Various types of structural organization of polycomplex gels based on lightly cross-linked anionic sulfonate gel and AstramolTM poly(propyleneimine) dendrimer of 4th generation were studied. It was shown, that along with macroscopic two-phase structure of core-shell type, which is formed in the process of activated dendrimer sorption, microheterogeneous composite with polycomplex phase particles of micron dimensions uniformly distributed in the network matrix is also formed. Such microheterogeneous composites are formed as a result of dendrimer molecules redistribution in the lightly cross-linked anionic gel under dendrimer charge change. Parameters of polycomplex gel microheterogeneous structure formed were evaluated by the laser scattering technique. It was found, that the sizes of dendrimer aggregates depend on the network degree of swelling.
