Intracavity laser spectroscopy of molecule HfCl New electronic transition 2Π3/2–X2Δ3/2

Abstract

Absorbtion electronic spectrum of hafnium monocloride (HfCl)has been investigated in the visible region in order to find the bands of HfCl that was predicted by theoretical calculations. These molecules of HfCl have been obtained in plasma which was created by pulses of electric discharge through a mixture of vapors of HfCl4 and He. Diffraction spectrograph was used to registrar the spectra. Two new bands in the HfCl spectrum were detected. These bands were assigned to transition 2Π3/2–X 2Δ 3/2. A rotational analysis of these bands was carried out and rotational constants were determined for the new 2Π3/2 electronic state. These constants are B0=0.104977(34)cm–1, and ae =0.00052(1)cm–1.
Key words: HfCl, intracavity laser spectroscopy, rotational analysis, molecular constants.
