Peculiarities of sample preparation in chromatographic determination of 1,1-dimethylhydrazine and N-nitrosodimethylamine in peaty soils

Abstract

An assessment of the applicability of existing methods of extraction and chromatographic determination of mobile forms of 1,1-dimethylhydrazine, as well as important product of its oxidative transformation N-nitrosodimethylamine for analysis of peat bog soils typical for the European North of Russia was done. It is shown that after three days from the soil contamination with 1,1-dimethylhydrazine no more than 15% of the initial content of the pollutant can be extracted. It was found that the maximum degree of extraction of unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine from peat can be achieved using steam distillation from the medium of 40% solution of sodium hydroxide. The optimization of sample preparation conditions and chromatographic determination of NDMA in soils with high organic content was performed.
