The influence of diamond blend on the resistance of polyimide films to atomic oxygen

Abstract

Film samples based on polypyromellitimide and polyamidimide and their modifications with carbon filler (diamond blend) have been exposed to atomic oxygen flow with an average energy of 20 eV. According to the obtained data the calculation of the mass erosion coefficients of the original and modified polyimide and a comparative analysis of the resistance of samples were made. The changes in morphology of polymer surfaces after exposure were studied with scanning electron microscopy. It was shown that increasing the filler contentin the polymer matrix has slightly improved polymer resistance to the atomic oxygen attack.
Key words:atomic oxygen, polypyromellitimide, polyamidimide.
