ABSTRACT. An equation is derived for the interrelationship between the thermal-lens signal and geometry parameters of the optical system of the dual-beam spectrometer (distances between beam waists, sample cell, and the detector). The optimisation of the optical system allowed the limits of detection and determination of Methyl Orange as an example model system to be lowered by an order of magnitude and the linear calibration range to be widened by more than one order of magnitude.
