Chemical aspects of cubic boron nitride synthesis

ABSTRACT. The paper presents the particular informanion about crystallochemical and some other physico-chemical properties of compounds formed in the systems MgxNy-BN, where M=Al, Si, Mg. It is shown that in ternary systems Mg3N2-MxNy-BN boronitrides of various composition of a type Mg3AlBN4 or Mg7SiB2N8 will be formed. In the system Mg3N2-AlN the formed double nitrides can be classified as a homologous row Mg3AlnNn+2, where n accepts value from 1 to 4 at atmospheric pressure, and from 2 to 5 under high pressure. In the binary systems Si3N4-BN and AlN-BN, the formation of compounds is not established. X-ray and some physico-chemical characteristics of obtained compounds are submitted.
