Chemical Modification of Silica and Hydroxyapatite with Organoboron Compounds

Abstract

The article is devoted to the investigation of the modifying process of porous mineral supports (silica and hydroxylapatite) with organoboron compounds. It is shown that activity of alkylboronic acids esters and anhydrides in the modifying reaction is practically equal. Hydrolytic stability of the resulting bonded layer is studied. It is shown that for silica the layer can be removed from the surface for 15 minutes. The bonded layer on the surface of hydroxylapatite is more stable; its total destruction does not occur even after 2 hours of hydrolysis. Authors believe that this is caused by a donor-acceptor interaction between boron atoms and phosphate anions of the surface.
