The interaction of aluminum with niobium and scandium in equilibrium and nonequilibrium states

Abstract

By using of the complex methods of the physico – chemical analysis it was found that only phases based on binary intermetallic compounds ScAl3 and NbAl3, containing a small amounts of the dopants are in equilibrium with aluminum in the Al–Nb–Sc system. Aluminum and binary phases ScAl3 and NbAl3 come into eutectic equilibrium at 873±5 K. The joint dopping of aluminum by niobium and scandium reduces the extent of the area of the supersaturated solid solution based on aluminum.
Key words: Al–Nb–Sc alloys, rapidly quenched alloys, isothermal section of the ternaru system, polythermal section.
