Liquid-phase hydrogenation of 1-methyl-4-nitrobenzene under conditions of partial deactivation of the supported nickel catalyst

Abstract

Abstract. The activity of supported nickel catalyst Ni/SiO2 in the liquid-phase hydrogenation of 1-methyl-4-nitrobenzene under partial controlled deactivation was studied. Catalysts with different amounts of supported nickel, which were partially deactivated by sulfide ion in a controlled manner, were used for the study. A method for determining the amount of reduced metal on the catalyst surface was proposed. The amounts of sulfide ion required to deactivate active centers were determined. The method of K.H. Bartholomew was used to assess the nature of catalyst deactivation. The number of active nickel atoms blocked by one sulfide ion was calculated.
